He came up 0.01 seconds short in the Wanamaker Mile at the NYRR Millrose Games in February. He also made an attempt to break the indoor 1,500-meter world record in Birmingham, but fellow Ethiopian Samuel Tefera won the race in a world record 3:31.04. The indoor mile record had been held by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj at 3:48.45. He set that record in 1997, making the record almost six years older than Kejelcha, who was born in 1997. Kejelcha's 1,500-meter split was recorded. With just over 100 meters to go, Kejelcha ran 3:31.25, the third fastest 1,500 meters ever recorded indoors. More news |
